Tigers!....Oh My....

How could I resist?? The bear and the lion would definitely be very lonely if I didn't take it upon myself to give them their other furry little friend; the lion. Here is my first attempt, and just as with the other two I feel he came out pretty splendidly. I was a bit worried he would turn more towards a Garfield appearance, but he held his own tiger-like image. I used orange chocolate for dipping, an orange M&M, halved for the ears, eyes are the same as his Oz buddies, his nose is a single sprinkle, and his muzzle is placed white chocolate (yay again for the tooth pick). The toothpick came in handy again when I gave his stripes which are melted black pastilles.
Put all together on a stick and tah dah! We have a fabulously iconic trio.

Lions!

Trying to continue on with the Bear, I attempted my first lion! I think he came out pretty well. I dipped him in a mixture of white and milk chocolate but I think I still want to get him a little lighter to match his mane which is made up of butterscotch chips (not peanut butter... though I would absolutely adore the flavour, I know they wouldn't agree with those prone to allergic reactions.) His eyes are the same eyes used on the reindeer and the bear, his nose is a brown M&M chopped in half and his mouth is carefully placed melted milk chocolate (yay for toothpicks which make great "chocolate pens"). Put it all together and you get a very sweet-looking lion.
(Sorry for the fuzzy photo, I have plans to get a better one taken, but for now here he is!)

Second Sale at St. George's Church

This past Saturday was my second sale, and it was another success! Thanks to all who came to support me on the day and to those who continued their support following Sunday's service. I hope wherever these little bundles of joy are going they bring a smile to people's faces. After all that's my main objective; to make cakes and to make people smile.
On top of the designs I brought with me last week, I added to my stock two other designs. Firstly, I added little Christmas Puddings, or "figgy puddings". Traditionally an English tradition at Christmas made up of fruit cake doused in brandy, and after being lit on fire (to burn off the alcohol not set the cake on fire), brandy hard sauce is poured over top and it dribbles down the sides. Often it gets a cheery garnish of holly leaves and berries which is more frequently found over there as apposed to in our Canadian backyards. My versions of this little classic don't contain fruitcake, if I remember correctly they are chocolate inside these particular ones. I dipped them in melted dark chocolate then after they had set, I dribbled melted white chocolate and encouraged it to drip down the sides. Waiting a couple moments, but before the white chocolate set completely, I placed holly leaves and berry sprinkles on the tops. They're a simple design, but wonderfully traditionally
My second addition was snowmen! How wintry? I adapted the original design replacing the hats with scarves. All the cake pops are the same amount of chocolate, so to make the head on top of the body I pinched off roughly a third of the ball and rolled a smaller one for the head. After working out how to dip the two balls one on top of the other so the snowmen didn't participate in self-decapitation in the melted white chocolate, I added the sunflower seeds for noses, and the black sprinkles for arms. After the white chocolate had set, I drew on a face with my edible pen and stuck on colour coordinated buttons (sprinkles) and scarves (rainbow fruit roll-up cut into scarf-length portions, that I pulled the colours apart). I think the only thing I'd change would be to find something a bit sturdier for the arms. Some of the appendages didn't survive as long as I'd like.

Bears!

One thing I would like to create for my enterprise, eventually, is an album of sorts displaying all of my designs, original or otherwise. For this I am doing one of each of these designs in order to get a broad perspective of the different seasonal designs people can choose from. I.e.: Christmas, Easter, Summer, Hallowe'en, Birthday, etc. On top of all the Christmas designs I've been accumulating, I made a bear for the first time! Fairly simply, but effective.
I have all the parts to make his little friends also.... lions and tigers....oh my!
Too cute to eat... almost.

First Sale Ever!!!

Today I had my first ever cake pop sale! After learning about this sale last weekend I've been working very hard to get both my cakes and myself ready. Firstly, I didn't want to mess it all up completely and secondly I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it.
So that I didn't completely drown in the commitment, I chose three designs from my cake pops book and came up with my own design for the occasion. There were several late nights and several moments where I couldn't look at another cake but luckily everything paid off.
The cake pops were very well received at the sale, most people couldn't believe they were cake! With time, I'm hoping to build an album to have out on the table so people can see both what's in them and various designs I can do.
Now I feel much more prepared for my next upcoming sale at our church!
My samples for the church... they reminded me of the sea-people Ursula had trapped.
The Santa Hats.
The Christmas Trees (these were my favourites)
The Reindeer (my most popular ones!!)
And my very own original designs, the Santa Bellies.
